The stone carpet
Made for Carlisle weather
Often nicknamed the stone carpet, a resin bound driveway is natural stone mixed with a clear resin and trowelled by hand onto a solid base. The finish is smooth and free of loose stones, so there is no gravel kicked onto the pavement and nothing for weeds to root into.
Carlisle gets more than its share of rain. Because resin bound surfaces let water drain straight through, they help avoid puddles by the door and surface run-off into the road.
We also lay resin paths, patios and garden borders, and we can combine resin with landscaping to finish the whole front garden. Thinking about cost, durability and design? We will talk you through all three at your free visit.
Advantages
Why Carlisle homeowners choose resin

Built properly, from the ground up
Over 20 years of getting the groundwork right, so the finish stays right.
Porous and permeable
Rainwater drains straight through the surface instead of pooling, so you get a puddle-free drive that is far less likely to flood.
Kinder to drains
SuDS compliant, so water soaks away naturally and less run-off reaches the road and drains.
Long-lasting durability
Bound stone resists cracking, frost and oil damage, and copes with everyday traffic from cars and vans.
Safe underfoot
A smooth, even surface with natural grip, even in poor weather. It can be laid to suit wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Honest advice
Is it right for your property?
We lay every surface, so we have no reason to push one. Here is the straight answer.
A great choice if
- You want a smooth, modern finish with no loose stones
- Your drive puddles or floods after heavy rain
- You would rather sweep than weed
- Your existing tarmac or concrete is sound enough to overlay
Think twice if
- The current base is cracking or sinking: it needs fixing first
- The surface takes regular heavy farm vehicles
- You need the lowest possible price on a very long drive

FAQs
Questions we get asked
Talk to the team who will actually do the job.
Yes. We work right across the city, including Botcherby, Currock, Durranhill, Garlands, Harraby and Upperby, plus the surrounding villages.
Yes. Resin bound driveways are known for being extremely durable. Correctly installed and well looked after, they last for many years, and because weeds cannot grow through and there are no loose stones, they keep looking good with very little effort.
It depends on the job. Block paving materials usually cost less than resin, but on a very large area, or where the ground needs a lot of preparation, resin can work out cheaper. Resin also needs less upkeep over the years. The best way to compare is a free quote, where we can price both options for your driveway.
Prices are usually fairly close. Resin bound surfaces have a stronger bond that copes better with extreme temperatures and harsh weather, while tarmac is more likely to weather and crack over time, so resin can be the more cost-effective choice in the long run.
Often, yes. If your current tarmac or concrete is sound, we can lay resin as an overlay, which saves the time and cost of a brand new sub-base. If it is not suitable, we prepare a new base first.
We advise keeping cars off a newly laid resin driveway for at least 24 hours, and possibly longer depending on the weather.
