It feels personal. You clear the drive, and within weeks the green fuzz is back in exactly the same lines.
It is usually not coming from underneath
In most cases, weeds in block paving grow from seeds blown or washed into the joints. Over time, dust, leaves and organic matter settle into the sand and turn it into the perfect seedbed.
Why pulling them is not enough
Pull the top off and the root often stays. Spray it and the seedbed is still there. Scrape the joints and you remove the sand that holds the blocks together.
You do not have a weed problem. You have a joint problem.

The fix that lasts
- Deep clean to remove dirt, moss and roots from the joints
- Let the surface dry completely
- Re-fill the joints with kiln-dried sand so there is no room for seeds
- Consider sealing every 2 to 5 years to lock the joints and protect the surface
- Sweep regularly so debris does not build up again
When the weeds mean something more
If blocks are rocking or sinking alongside the weeds, the problem may be in the base. We will point that out honestly when we come to clean it. See our driveway cleaning and block paving pages.
