On a farm or a rural property, a driveway is not decoration. It is infrastructure, and it gets treated like it.
Why tarmac usually wins on length
Tarmac covers large areas for less than block paving or resin, and it is quick to lay, which keeps disruption short. It handles vans, tractors and trailers, so it suits farm entrances, yards and private roads.
Build the base for the heaviest vehicle
A drive that only sees cars needs a solid base. A track that sees tractors and delivery lorries needs a stronger one. Design for the worst day, not the average one.
On a long drive, water is the enemy. Give it somewhere to go and the surface will thank you.

Shape it to shed water
A gentle camber or fall moves rain off the surface and into verges or drains. Standing water on a long drive is the start of potholes.
Edges and verges
Heavy wheels on unsupported edges break them up. Firm edging, or a well-compacted verge, keeps the surface from crumbling at the sides.
Fix small damage early
A small pothole is a quick repair. Left for a winter, it becomes a big one. Regular checks save money. We lay and repair tarmac across the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway.
